Art Gallery Serdica presents “BEHIND THE CHRISTMAS TREE”
CHRISTMAS MARKET – EXHIBIT OF CARICATURES

Art Gallery Serdica and the Union of Bulgarian Artists, “Caricature” Section, present the best works of 16 established Bulgarian caricaturists, such as Lyubomir Mihaylov, Ivaylo Tsvetkov, Alla and Chavdar Georgievi, Maya Cholakova, Milko Dikov, Dilyana Nikolova, Trayko Popov, Svetla Hristova and other talented artists. The exhibit is open to the public from 9 December 2021 to 12 January 2022, and the opening is on 9 December (Thursday) from 17:00 to 20:00 o’clock.
“BEHIND THE CHRISTMAS TREE” for a second time, before Christmas, presents established Bulgarian caricaturists with joyful graphical surprises for the genre’s fans and it is on the way to turn into a tradition for the art space of Gallery Serdica. In addition to original cartoons and caricatures of famous public figures, the exhibit also presents satiric drawings, digital graphics aquarelle and artistic techniques. High quality caricatures’ prints will be shown as well, with prices starting from BGN 40. The topics are as always diverse, but this time the political satire shall not be an “inspirer” of our burning issues.
“The ironic graphics, in particular the caricature, is more famous and known as a propaganda tool for creation and for focusing in times of crises and crisis situations, as means for critique, satire and achievement of goals. The other side of the caricature as an art is to provide fun, even in times of viruses” says Valeri Aleksandrov, a secretary of “Caricature” Section of the Union of Bulgarian Artists, adding that the pre-Christmas exhibit is a quite loved by the public event, being in our case a review of the achievements of the contemporary Bulgarian artists, working in the sphere of the caricature.
Art Gallery Serdica is becoming a traditional host of the Christmas Market of the Caricature. At the end of 2019 a similar exhibit was organized, attracting outstanding public interest. The organizers expect again for the genre’s fans to visit and enjoy the last works of the talented Bulgarian caricaturists.
The exhibit will be held in compliance with all anti-epidemic requirements in effect for similar events.
“The effort is worth it, because most of all the exhibit provokes and entertains its visitors and connoisseurs. Its goal is to incentivize and encourage the development of the art of the caricaturist, while contributing to making popular the art of the Bulgarian caricaturists and cartoonists, who for another consecutive year have received many awards countrywide and abroad” Valeri Aleksandrov adds.
